Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am blessed to teach a group of curious 2nd graders at a Title I school. Despite the challenges many students face outside the classroom, we are building a small community of learners eager to wonder, work, and make a difference in the world.

My students are creative, very inquisitive, and full of energy.

They love being mobile, reading books, and seeking out new wonders. Many households receive free or reduced-priced meals based on their socioeconomic status. Limited resources have prevented some of my students from experiencing the community outside their normal surroundings. That is why I have made it a goal to greet them daily with compassion and open their minds to new educational experiences.

I want to introduce them to exciting places, history, and a sense of who they can become. The atmosphere of learning, experiencing the wonder, and enjoying new and adventurous ways to learn will help bridge the gap between home and school.

My Project

I want to make our spelling centers more fun for my students. Magnetic letters, tiles and spelling games will give them fun ways to use their sense of touch and sight to practice CVC and CVCe words.

Manipulating letters and tiles to practice spelling words in spelling centers will engage my students and promote participation and learning.

My students will glow as they learn to spell words that once challenged them. Learning to spell the words will also promote better reading skills. This is a "Win, win" situation for all students. I have watched my students struggle with spelling, but look forward to a more relaxed approach to helping them reach a new level.
