My students are English Learners in kindergarten through fourth grade. This group is made up of 16 different home language backgrounds and they are all working towards developing their understanding and use of the English language. They are hard working, enthusiastic, and proud of where their families come from.
My students love to celebrate their cultures and are delighted when they see others celebrating along with them!
They come from families from all around the world and continually bond over stories of the similarities and differences in their cultures. They also love to learn about the different aspects of their friends' backgrounds. Their joy and excitement are palpable when they are sharing stories about their cultures!
My Project
The books that I want to purchase will help to expand my multicultural library further so that my students can find books from their own backgrounds. Having books that represent my students and their cultures will help them to develop positive self images. It will also help them to feel included as an important part of our school.
My students need access to more books and stories from different places around the world in order to be able to connect with the books they are reading.
The diversity among my students is part of what makes our groups so special! These books will not only help them see themselves in a story, but they will help educate them about different places and cultures around the world.
