I teach introductory and college-level biology at the largest school in Guilford County. Despite being known as a school where students receive a top-notch education, our school is struggling to find funds to provide copies of handouts, art supplies for interactive notes and projects, and lab materials.
My primary goal as a teacher is to help each student come to appreciate the diversity and complexity of life and to reach their individual potential.
A big part of reaching that goal is to provide students with opportunities to explore content with their own two hands. Your generous donation will help us purchase materials students will use in the classroom to dive deeply into our curriculum, design and carry out their own experiments, and develop the skills needed to be successful in college and the 21st-century economy.
My Project
My students need new lab safety goggles for use during our biology labs. Past cohorts of students have struggled to measure and record data correctly with our old set of worn-out, scratched goggles.
Students can't wait to get up-close and personal with their labs this year while they wear new lab safety goggles.
These goggles will help to protect students as they design and carry out their own labs. Some of the labs we hope to implement with this new eye protection include analysis of photosynthetic rates of pond plants, floating enzyme beads, denaturation of potato enzymes, the ever-favorite egg lab, and more. Students will learn so much more from these labs once they have appropriate eyewear to use.
