My fifth grade math class is a group of kids who live in Houston, Texas and attend a Title I School. Eighty-five percent of the population are at risk and ninety-six percent of them receive free or reduced price lunch. The group includes Hispanic, African American, Asian and White students; forty-nine percent of the students are male and fifty-one percent are female.
My students are willing to learn more everyday.
They want to use a variety of resources (including technology) to challenge their brain everyday and to apply the knowledge they are acquiring each day in class.
One hundred and twenty students will benefit from this project in each of the math blocks or rotations during class activities, and extra rotations for interventions and enrichment from 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. The majority of the students also participate in the after school program from 3:00 to 4:45 pm. and Saturday tutorials from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
My Project
Since 2007 our school has mounted projectors in the ceiling connected to the teacher workstation. We were able to watch our morning announcements and programs through this system and work with the SMARTBoard.
Our projector is over 10 years old now, it is not updated and the resolution does not project a clear picture for the students to see.
We are having to turn off all the lights in the classroom, which makes it difficult for the students to work in the dark. This new projector will allow us to see clearly again and enjoy all Smartboard Lessons, pictures, videos, and educational activities for our learning.
