Be efficient! Be effective! Our classroom needs a teaching easel that is equipped with the supplies needed to make learning accessible to all students.
I teach a group of diverse First Graders in a wonderful inner-city school.
There are students at multiple learning levels, many Spanish-speaking families, and the majority at low-income. Consequently, resources are not always readily available for each student.
My Project
My favorite parts of the day are when I can gather all my students together on the carpet and teach whole group lessons. When I meet with my students in this fashion, I need many materials readily available to make every second a learning experience. The "Teach and Store Cart Stand" will do just this. I will have a large, magnetic dry-erase board so that even the students in the back will be able to see! I will also have a place to hang charts and place books. Another helpful feature is the storage rack underneath. This will give me a place for all the materials I need to make the lessons meaningful and transition smoothly.
Currently it is a daily struggle to meet together for whole group instruction because of the lack of equipment.
I am using a small dry-erase board and easel that students in the back and sides have a hard time viewing. My teaching is constantly interrupted with shouts, "I can't see!" We are in great need of an organizational easel that will give students the visual support that they need and give me the storage space to make all the materials readily available so not a minute is lost!
