My Students
My students are from a very diverse multicultural population. We enjoy an open engaging classroom where higher level thinking is encouraged and nourished. Books are our treasures and we need more books in the lower levels for our students who are learning to read in English.
Our school is a K-3 Lower Elementary and a full Title I school with over 60% of students receiving reduced or free lunch.
However, we are still a very high performing school, because we strive everyday to not let circumstances or ethnicity get in the way of an enriched and rigorous education.
My Project
If our project is funded we will be purchasing books to add to our very limited kindergarten level classroom library to reinforce our struggling readers.
Being a fluent reader opens a new and often magical world to young children.
Our goal is that every child in our room reads before leaving first grade. Many of our English Language Learners and our economically disadvantaged students don't get the reading exposure they need to become fluent readers. These books will provide variety and excitement to encourage more reading practice for these students.
