The students in our community come from many different social backgrounds and family situations. About 60% of the students at our school participate in the free and reduced-price lunch program. We also have a backpack program that provides a donation of food to the many families who need assistance.
Our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students come from many different nations and are eager to learn to read, write, and speak English.
Our school strives to plant seeds of success within each child who walks through the doors. We focus intently on loving each student and meeting all of their needs. We concentrate on growing not only each student's knowledge but also their character.
My Project
ESOL students will learn to recognize the letters in the English alphabet. They will learn to recognize sight words. They will also acquire experience in discovering base words, along with their prefixes and suffixes. The math resources will familiarize our ESOL students with word names, basic number sense, and early math concepts.
These resources will help our ESOL students to progress towards being successful in grade level content in both Mathematics and English Language Arts.
I plan to use the magnetic letter boards to help my students learn how to build the words of the week. The Alphabet Soup sorting game will help my students recognize and sort their letters. The older ESOL students will be using the Multiplication Charts to learn their multiplication facts.
