Mrs. H. from Chicago IL is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need two iPad mini's, headphones and cases to help strengthen their phonemic awareness skills and instill the love of reading by creating a class of lifelong learners and readers.

My first grade students are beginning their journey into becoming lifelong readers, but they need a little help and motivation to embark on their journey. Our classroom has a variety of books, but many of my students are reluctant readers who have a great love and enthusiasm for technology. My first grade class is located within an inner city neighborhood of Chicago. I would like to integrate technology into reading through the use of the iPad miniÃÂÃÂ's. My students have a wide variety of educational strengths as well as academic needs. The addition of two iPad mini'ÃÂÃÂs will allow me to reach my reluctant, and struggling readers in a way that I have not been able to. The iPad mini'ÃÂÃÂs are a bit larger which will help their first grade fingers navigate the screen. The addition of these iPad mini's would provide me with a way to inspire a love for reading and technology while catering to every student's learning needs.
My students are eager learners from the inner city neighborhoods of Chicago.
They have a yearning to soak up as much as possible and a huge interest in technology. I have no doubt in my mind that they desire the skills to read, write and communicate their ideas more in depth. I want to inspire them to become lifelong readers and learners in a way that will reach and excite them.
After some research, I decided to ask for your help to fund the iPad mini's project in particular due to the many different functions and capabilities that it have. I would be able to download and purchase books and share them through the shared library feature that can be done between the two iPad mini's. I would also be able to download and purchase apps that will help strengthen my students' phonemic awareness skills, and improve their sight word recognition. Increasing their sight word recognition and phonemic awareness skills are fundamental to the creation of a lifelong reader.
Your donations will help fund and support my project and help my students in my classroom who are reluctant to pick up a book and read.
I am trying to inspire and instill the love of reading by creating a class of lifelong learners and readers. I know that my students are very receptive to technology, and the addition of the two iPad mini's would not only help the students in my classroom this year, but this gift will be very influential for several years to come.
