My students are from a high poverty area where reading is not a priority.
It makes my job harder to make them develop a love of reading. My school is considered a Title I school where 70-80% qualify for free and reduced lunch. My students are eager to learn but don't have the resources to make that happen. That puts the pressure on me as the teacher to supply all they will need.
My Project
I want to help my students become successful and enthusiastic readers with specially selected books for their reading level! The leveled readers are ideal for both guided and independent reading, and includes books leveled using instruction and Pinnell'Âs system, thus making it easy to provide differentiated instruction Â"and meet every student'Âs needs. Each level comes with 5 books for that level. My students will be using them during guided reading.
To be a better reader, you must read.
To want to read, you must enjoy it. Providing books at each student's level will help to promote their want to read. With you help, together we can make kids love to read again.
