The best word to describe my school is "family". Visitors often comment that when they arrive at our school, they feel like they are being welcomed into a family. The atmosphere is warm and upbeat. Within each classroom, every teacher strives to create a class family where students care about each other and work together to learn.
My students are enthusiastic, eager learners.
They are five and six year olds who are just starting their school experience and they love to learn. Kindergarten is an exciting time for them! They range in ability from struggling to learn sounds to being fluent readers. The students in my class are ethnically diverse. Twelve different languages are spoken in the homes of my students. The families of my students are very supportive and are always willing to go the extra mile to help their children.
My Project
I would love to put more books in the hands of my kindergartners. My beginning readers have learned the sounds the letters make and are now learning to blend those sounds together to read words. But most books are much too hard for my students. They need books that contain simple words so that they can “sound out” each word. My goal is to create a class library of books that my students can actually read. The books in the Dandelion Series have been created for beginning readers. They contain three letter words that are easy to “sound out”. These books will be highly motivating for my students because they will actually be able to read them! In fact, I am asking for six copies of each title so that we can use these books during reading group time. I can imagine the smiles on my students faces as they think, "Hey! This books has words that I can read!" Thank you in advance for your help with this!
The best way to become a better reader is to read, read, and then read some more.
