Do you remember learning to read! For me it was magical. A doorway in whole new worlds opened up for me and I could enter it any time I got my hands on a book. I teach kindergarten at a Title 1 school where my students enter public education engaged and ready to learn.
My kindergarteners are excited about mastering all kinds of new information, and when they finally gain the necessary skills to read books by themselves, their full-throttle enthusiasm for learning gets turbo-charged.
A complete set of early readers will give every student in my class an opportunity to bask in the satisfying accomplishment of reading a whole book all by themselves, and then the opportunity to repeat and expand that accomplishment
I love that this set of books will allow each student to progress to more and more complex text and continue to feel both challenged and successful throughout the year.
I plan to use the books primarily as material for Read to Self and Read to Partner centers, but also in small guided groups for students who are just beginning to read alone.
