My students need Early Literacy Single Student Read-Alongs Library 1 and 2, Wikki Stix and a student CD player with AC adaptor to improve literacy skills.
Do you remember Kindergarten? Now think of being a Kindergartner who has not been exposed to a good book. This is the reality for my students. They have not had these experiences before walking into my classroom.
I have a large diverse population of students from all over the world.
For some this is their first exposure to listening to stories, and they are very excited to learn to read. The majority of my kids have had no educational exposure before coming to my classroom. That's why it is important to give them a good solid base in reading for the rest of their lives.
My Project
The resources I am requesting are two sets of 16 individual books with CDs, a classroom set of Wikki Stix and an individual CD player with AC adaptor. The Wikki Stix will be used to reinforce how to form letters correctly and used to spell words. The individual stories with CDs and CD player will be used during Reader's Workshop. This will allow my students a chance to listen to wonderful books by themselves. By giving these books to my students, they will have the opportunity to listen to stories read by me as well as on CD. This is an extremely valuable added resource. It gives them personal control over holding the book, turning the pages, and listening to the words. What a wonderful way to inspire them to learn to read, get them ready for First Grade and the rest of their education!
Due to drastic state budget cuts to education and being a single income family, I do not have the money to buy these wonderful books on CDs by myself.
These materials will make a huge difference in the success of my kindergarteners and future students.
