Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"I can do it!" These words are music to my ears! My kindergarten students are truly proud of themselves when they are able to complete something independently. It is an amazing experience to be able to watch these students blossom and become independent. Whether it is opening and closing marker, glue bottles, opening their breakfast items in the classroom, writing their name, or writing new letters or words...their faces beam with pride when they are able to do something they weren't able to do before. These are moments that we learn to celebrate.
Approximately 90% of our students are socioeconomically disadvantaged.
We strive to give our students the best educational experiences at Joyner MicroSociety Elementary.
My Project
The students in my classroom come to me with a range of gross motor and fine motor abilities. The materials on this wish list are items that will help students strengthen their fine motor skills, or as we say in the classroom "strengthen our finger muscles!"
Learning by doing!
Items on this wish list are recommended by occupational therapists to aide students in fine motor skill development. Students will be able to build structures with the manipulatives like building bridges or making building out of building bricks. Students will create "tear art" pieces with the masking tape, and use beads and laces for making jewelry. The magnet tile set will give an opportunity for students to build a creation and take it apart, all while using their finger tips to manipulate the pieces. The tweezers and pom poms will be used during math activities, cross content connections.
The best part is that my students will be able to develop their skills while they are fully engaged using these awesome tools!
