My students need hygiene items, including washcloths, laundry detergent to clean the washcloths, toothbrushes, toothpaste and combs to practice their independent health care skills.
My students are enrolled in the life skills program at AHE. Each student experiences a significant disability, and no two students are the same.
One of the most important things my students can learn is how to care for themselves.
My students are learning to brush their teeth, comb their hair, and wash their faces independently.
Many of my students' families struggle to teach these skills at home because it often takes two people to help a student become comfortable brushing his teeth or washing her face. Your donation will help students to experience independent activities that would otherwise not be provided.
My Project
Many of my students come to school unable to independently care for their own hygiene needs. These resources will allow my students to gain skills in completing their own hygiene.
Students need first to become comfortable having their teeth brushed by an adult, and then learn to brush their own teeth.
Having a toothbrush at school for each person lets my staff and me facilitate independent learning for each student.
Students are taught to wash their own faces, checking in the mirror to be sure that all debris is removed. At the end of the week, students take turns learning to use the washer and dryer to keep the washcloths clean.
Students are taught to care for their hair by looking in the mirror and combing their hair to keep it neat. Each student has his or her own comb.
