Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
These children are amazing! Many of them are second language learners and or have learning disabilities while also struggling with outside challenges while learning. They are all sweet and caring young people with a true desire to be successful.
Many of the students read below grade level, are English Language Learners, and benefit greatly from explaining their thinking to others while supporting their comprehension.
Some have come here from other countries, have learned English but struggle to read and write in either language, while others have attention issues or are on the spectrum.
My Project
Calculators are a necessary tool for most of my students. My students have a variety of learning disabilities. When I want students to engage in higher-order thinking such as solving problems, exploring patterns, and working with real-world data. The use of calculators benefits students, especially those with learning disabilities.
Calculators support learning math for students who struggle.
Students with learning disabilities are often unable to participate in these engaging activities because of the calculations needed. Having access to working calculators eliminates the need to try and remember and instead allows students to focus on the skill.
