My students need a complete set of alphabet sounds puzzles with rack, a self checking magnetic board with cards, one set of learning letters acitvity center and a game of finding alphabet bubbles.
The students that I work with attend a high poverty school that serves children with disabilities in New York. I teach a self-contained 8:1:1 (8 students: 1 teacher: 1 paraprofessional) K-1st grade class. My students have different diagnosis, such as Autism and intellectual disabilities. I work in one of the highest need areas in NY and all my students rely on our free meal program. Each one of my students is unique and their academic levels, interests, behaviors and learning styles vary. As educators, we are constantly searching for ways to engage students' in learning and help each and every child achieve their full potential.
My Project
The materials I have chosen will help my students learn and practice alphabet skills. This will create a great foundation for reading. The Alphabet bubbles will help in developing skills in identifying uppercase and lowercase letters, alphabet knowledge, letter-sound correspondence and identifying beginning sounds. It is a great way to bring language practice to play. The activity center will also help not only with identifying letters, but also with building fine motor skills. The magnetic maze is just an irresistible, hands-on way to explore the alphabet using matching skills. Also the super involving puzzle set will help children build alphabet skills—piece by piece!
