Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Welcome to the Wonder Workshop Coding and Robotics Club!
Our club is made up of a group of 2nd and 3rd graders, most of whom do not have access to computers or technology outside of school.
The Coding Club is one of their only opportunities to participate in after school programs. This club is just for them! We meet once a week and learn about coding using the Code.org platform. So far students have learned how to work in teams to solve problems, how to write code and how to debug IT problems... and we are just getting started!
These 8 and 9 year olds are super excited about the next step: writing code to program robots. This year we could not participate in the International Code.org robotics competition because we didn't have robots. Watch out, because next year we are coming and we are going to win!
My Project
We can't wait to teach our students how to use their skills for more than just coding. They are very excited at the prospect of applying this knowledge to robotics. Please, please help us get "Dot" robots!
Our students are learning how to write basic lines of code to conquer the Angry Bird, the extinction of the bee, and to make their own puzzles.
They are also rapidly noticing that programming has useful applications in many different occupations! Our hope is that we can inspire children at a very young age to think about a career in Science and Technology.
