My Project

I teach American Government, Economics, AP Government and AP Macroeconomics to a very special group. I have had the pleasure of teaching many of them every year in high school. Teaching in this contemporary social and political environment has resulted in a plethora of engaging conversations, many of which are centered on their sentiments and perspectives.

The January 12th tornado in Selma, AL was one of several devastating accidents that occurred this school year.

In order to provide my kids an artistic perspective, I'd like to turn my annual black history project into an art exhibit.

Because of my ties with this group of students, I've had interactions that have exposed how much agony this school year has caused. I'm aware that art can aid with coping skills and would like to take advantage of this opportunity to generate some time of relief.

I will give students a week to create black history self portraits that will be displayed in the corridor outside of my classroom.
