Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a school that nearly 100 percent of the students receive free or reduced lunches. My students come from homes that face economic hardships, instability, and homelessness. I work in a part of town that is often considered dangerous and violent.
Despite the hardships my students face, they come to class every day smiling and ready to learn.
My goal as a teacher is to provide for all of my students the best as I can. I will always work hard to bring my students new, engaging, fun, creative and hands-on lessons so they can focus more. I love having the chance to use DonorsChoose.org as it allows me to bring resources and materials to my students. It is an incredible gift to watch my students grow and learn throughout the year.
My Project
Most of the time we read hard cover or online books to study science. Students love to learn about their world. Although they read and learn about it, research has shown that hands on learning is the best way to understand.
I want to provide my first graders with hands on learning about science, specially girls since there is a disparity of females going into the field.
I need your help to give them the tools they need to become mini scientist.
I have been teaching for 20 years and from experience I can tell you that SCIENCE is one of the most favorite subjects in class. The microscopes along with the slides and lab coats will help my students get even more excited about their learning. My hope is to inspire them, specially girls, to think about becoming scientist. I have one in class and when we use it they want to keep learning and looking at everything they can under the microscope. We need more so everyone can have more access on a daily basis.
