Each and every one of my students are unique and special. I have 17 Kindergarten kiddos ranging from 4-6 years old. My classroom is represented by multiple different cultural and language backgrounds, including Spanish and Telugu. We celebrate learners of all abilities, whether they have developmental delays, speech challenges, or are just starting to learn English.
We remind each other everyday that we are a family and we take care of each other.
We are all different, but each of us is important. I start each day by asking, "Who will take care of ____?" I am quickly answered by a sea of hands and children genuinely promising to look out for another human being. My children surprise me every day with their gentle hearts and their fire to learn.
My Project
Tap...tap tap...tap tap tap tap...TAP! The tapping never ends! We sing, we dance, we stretch, we jump. No amount of brain breaks and engaging instruction can stop kindergarteners from being their hyperactive selves. They need to constantly move their bodies, but all their tapping and noise-making is keeping others from learning.
I need a way to eliminate distracting behaviors while satisfying a five-year-old's need to wiggle.
I can do this by directing their energy towards objects proven to increase focus: wobble chairs, stability cushions, fidget toys, and stress balls. This will ensure that all of my students are able to learn free from fidgets, wiggles, and constant noise-making. Please help me stop the tapping!
