I have thirty-two fifth grade students from poor socio-economic backgrounds. We live in Alaska and many students are still walking to school in crocs and socks in 1 degree weather. When they arrive at school, they are sweaty, have wet feet, and are cold. It would be wonderful if we had extra socks at school, so they could change and have dry feet.
I have to teach students about personal hygiene and need to introduce deodorants this year.
I've bought several bottles of spray deodorant, but I feel it would be awesome if each child had their own container of deodorant. I would allow them the option of taking it home or keeping it at school but either way it will build self-confidence and life long hygiene skills.
My students also need water bottles. If they had the aluminum water bottles they could put warm water into them before school and have warm water or tea all day long. These are all simple items that we take for granted but would greatly improve my students' quality of life. Warm, hydrated, and hygienic children are much more likely to focus on academics and learn.
