My students need sanitation supplies for managing with their menstrual period in a clean and hygienic way.

My Students

99% of my students identify as Yupik Eskimo. We live in a remote subsistence fishing village on the Bristol Bay, where everything must be brought in by plane or barge.

The cost of hygiene materials for students are very high, even by Alaska standards for bush life.

This increases the cost of living for students who are already living well below the poverty line.

There are some families who do not have running water in their homes, or hot water. Some students shower and launder their clothing at school. Although there is a strong Yupik tradition of taking a "steam bath" or maqii this is not an everyday option.

My Project

The young ladies of my village in Togiak Alaska will benefit from these sanitary supplies in their homes and at school. Menstrual supplies must be shipped in and are very expensive.

For our female students, they deserve the same high quality menstrual products found in the Lower 48 states, which can be harder to get in our rural village.

It can be very traumatic to be caught unawares at school so having these supplies readily available will mean my female students will be able to concentrate on their school work.
