A typical day in my classroom is very busy and productive. Students love to learn, and are eager to do hands-on activities in the classroom and the laboratory setting. "Opportunity is often missed because it is disguised as hard work."
My students are from a tight-knit, rural community who love to show their school spirit and attend many activities provided by our school.
They are small classes, and students get along well with each other. Our school shows pride through the hallways and has good school spirit.
My Project
These materials will allow my students to grow new plants in the existing hydroponics system they built by hand. They will be able to use actual cups made for hydroponics, rather than plastic cups we have been cutting to fit into the system, and clay pellets. This will make the appearance of the system cleaner and nicer looking, while allowing students to use real products that will aid in student learning of "real life" hydroponics system set ups. We are also requesting a pH balancing kit to help plants grow how they need to. Students will be able to feel like professionals as they plant and grow their own plants this semester to harvest later in the year. Plants grown, like tomatoes and cucumbers, will be vegetables and fruits, so students can learn how to grow and harvest crops for their own consumption!
