Hydroponics for Healthy Food

My students need to use our vacant greenhouse to raise hydroponic vegetable crops to donate to the local foodbank's new fresh produce program.

My Students

Urban students often have little exposure to fresh foods. I want them to learn about fresh food, grow produce, and make fresh produce available to those who may not be able to purchase their own fresh produce.

My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but have the common goal of growing plants.

Many have a sincere interest in pursuing a career in horticulture. It is essential to understand how plants grow to pursue a career in horticulture. the benefit of helping the community would give them a feeling of pride as well.

My Project

This curriculum guide will be the spring board for creating an enriching experience for my students and I. Currently, it is difficult to find information on hydroponics that is valuable and useful in the classroom. This curriculum was designed to work with agriculture classrooms like mine. I think we can all learn a great deal about hydroponics.

The project has the potential to grow and develop into a sustainable source of produce for some of our poorest community members.

The health benefits and education benefits of this project would be great.
