This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students are eager to learn! They are in one of the lowest income areas in our state and do not have access to many forms of learning or engaging outside the school campus.
They have a love for reading that is astounding.
Some students will come into the library every day of the week and check out a new book. Classes are brought in daily to check out books and find new ways to engage with the text. You won't find more avid readers anywhere!
My Project
Our new library next year will be made entirely of a glass bridge over a creek! We want to use this opportunity with the natural light and atmosphere to give the students an opportunity to grow some leafy greens, herbs, fruits, and vegetables and then use those to create healthy meals that they can make at home. I'm requesting a Hydroponic Indoor Farm and accessories including an upgrade kit, tray, and rock and foam resupply kits.
Our library will be right next to the PEAK classes which are set up like kitchens.
We plan to also involve the community in this by allowing parents and others to join in these cooking classes.
Please give our students the chance to grow their own food and then learn to cook with it!
