My Students

The students in my classroom are full of love and excitement. They live in a low-income neighborhood with the majority of them residing in apartments. The neighborhood is not safe at night.

We are a Title I school that is ranked One Star, and even though this may seem overwhelming, our classroom is full of caring and support.

We like our Meditation Mondays, Thursday Beans, and Rice day, our room transformations, and our science stations that make learning fun. Although my students think I live at school, they are right in that it feels like home.

My Project

These hydroponic materials would not only make a difference in the students' learning, they will also make a difference in their lives. Most of the students in our classroom live in apartment buildings. This makes it difficult to grow and maintain a garden. The hydroponics system will demonstrate how students can grow healthy foods in small spaces at home. They will learn how plants receive nutrients through water and not just soil. The hydroponics system will create opportunities for students to explore multiple subjects in meaningful ways. In fact, the planting system will be utilized in all subject areas. Students will keep science journals, measure plant growth, discuss healthy food choices, and read books on planting and life cycles. It would be just wonderful. Thank you for your consideration.
