As a teacher at an alternative high school in an urban school district, my students come to our school because they are each at-risk of not graduating. Over 75% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch and our school has limited and outdated technology available for student use in the classroom. Students arrive at our school for a variety of reasons: academic struggles, behavior issues and/or absenteeism. As a result, most have lost confidence and fallen behind in their science skills. We focus on identifying gaps in student science skills, differentiating to individual needs to fill those gaps and ultimately allow each student to grow and experience a sense of academic accomplishment. My students are determined to graduate and learn best when they are actively engaged with hands on activities that integrate technology/engineering. There is GOOD NEWS! My students enjoy technology/engineering and learn best when hands on activities are integrated into daily lessons. This is key to motivating and inspiring my students to challenge themselves academically, gain confidence as a learner and develop an appreciation for science!

Hydraulics, What is it ?
Hydraulic systems are a fundamental part of today's work environment.
Hydraulics is the science of liquids, such as water or oil. In hydraulic systems, pressure can be exerted through liquids, and that pressure can be transmit motion from one place to another. Motion can be transmitted because liquids are incompressible; that is, they cannot be compressed top a smaller volume. students will be their hydraulic arms and use the principles of hydraulics to control energy. (the ability to do work). Students will demonstrate the hydraulic arm's ability to do work by moving heavy objects from place to place.
