Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are so talented and have great potential! We are over 90% Latino but getting more and more diverse each year. We just became wall to wall magnet to allow our students to have a choice in what high school they can attend. All our students still qualify for the free lunch program and we have been ever increasing in our scores as a whole. The culture of our school has been unimaginatively positive. We are making great efforts to increase our technology use in the classroom and get technology to each student.
We are now a School To Watch four years running and we are very proud of it!
My Project
Our students are currently working with paper and cardboard and creating amazing things. We want to eventually use wood to make engineering STEM projects but we do not have the tools.
With a hydraulic press we will be able to create a project that the students have been begging to make.
Long boards. We will also be able to destruct our projects such as a wooden bridge to see how much pressure it would be able to hold and collect data.
Hopefully these hands-on builds and experiments will make life-long learning experiences. Ultimately, piquing their interests in making, creating and building.
