Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am so lucky to have so many amazing students in my class this year! They are so eager to learn, and could not wait to be back in the classroom. While I provide academic instruction it is important to make sure the children have their basic needs met. Many children are hungry and thirsty throughout the day and can lose focus.
I work in a Title 1 school; many of the children struggle to have their basic needs met.
It is hard for them to worry about reading and writing when their belly is rumbling due to hunger and thirst.
My Project
Many children show up to school hungry and thirsty. This impacts their ability to focus and learn. Being able to offer them a healthy snack and a reusable water bottle in order to stay hydrated would greatly improve their focus on academic tasks. As a teacher, I wear many hats and teaching reading and math are just a part of my daily responsibilities. I strive to take care of the whole child and provide for them during these tough times. School should be a sanctuary for them where they are provided with everything they need to be successful, and that starts with fueling your body.
