I am the proud librarian in a serene part of Brooklyn, NY. This past October, many neighborhoods in NYC were warned to evacuate as Hurricane Sandy was imminent, but not all our students were told that their homes were not safe and they were hit hard!
Their homes were flooded, their cars destroyed.
Their only safe haven is school, where our building was fortunately spared. But as they come to school every day, the hardships at home are mounting. Some have to replace everything! From clothes, to appliances, and of course computers. They come to school each day, ready and dedicated to further their education, but in this 21st century world, they are now behind the curve in technology and many already were!
My Project
Our library's computers are nearly 6-years-old. Computers are like dogs. Each year is equal to about 7 human years. Our computers are OLD. They are slow and sluggish. The students are quickly losing patience as they try to get their work done. And now, more than ever, they need the library's computers to keep up with their school work. For the last couple of months, I have been working hard to try and "clean up" the computers and to make them work faster and more efficiently, but I'm not succeeding and the money to replace these computers ilibrary'ss just not there. That's where you come in. I need you, to help replace our 13, desktop computers, so our students can succeed in their work.
My students are bright, energetic, and ready to learn.
With a little help and encouragement, they can overcome this tragic event and move forward. All they need is a little help from you.
