My students need food that will not spoil, like crackers, trail mix, and cookies, because they do not have power due to Hurricane Sandy.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hungry and these nonperishable snack foods can go home to feed both them and their families.
Our Middle School is a diverse high-need school comprised of over 1,000 students in grades 6 to 8.
Half of our student population currently receives free or reduced priced lunch. Approximately half of our students receive support services in addition to their core classes. All of the students have been adversely affected by Hurricane Sandy.
My Project
Hurricane Sandy and the storm surge crippled our small waterfront community. Many are going onto our second week with no heat or power, all have had no school and some no longer have homes to return to. The snack foods I have selected are found in any school but would now be a burden to go out and get for families dealing with water damage, home-loss and rebuilding. Having basic snacks to eat at school and to bring home to family members still without heat and power would make it easier for the children. We keep a food pantry stocked but in these dire times the shelves are bare.
Please help my students by donating meat sticks, trail mix, cookies, and crackers for those displaced by the hurricane.
They need to be ready to learn and study. Having a stockpile of these resources in the library to hand out to the children in need would be a great way to help them out.
