Hurricane Sandy Struck The Music Room
My students need a cart, projector and speaker system.
HELP SAVE THE MUSIC! Hurricane Sandy flooded our school, and now that we've finally returned from our temporary buildings, we are noticing how much of our supplies have been ruined!
My students are 552 diverse, talented, inspiring and strong kids (age Kindergarten through 4th Grade).
We are located on the South Shore of Long Island right on the water. Most of these kids lost their houses and family businesses in addition to our school, due to Hurricane Sandy. We recently returned from the 4 temporary buildings we relocated to. They are so strong and anxious to return to "normalcy". They are so musical and hope they can resume learning where they left off.
I am requesting audio speakers, so we can play music again in the classroom. Since the hurricane, I've been using cheap speakers I picked up in a store to substitue for the ones we lost in the hurricane. They barely play loud enough for all the students in the room to hear!
I am also requesting an overhead projector and cart to place it on. Much of our printed music and books have been lost in the flooding. The projector will allow me to display the remaining copies I have left to the entire class on the board, without having to incur the tremendous expense of re-ordering entire class sets of all the materials.
This projector, projector cart and audio speakers will allow the entire class to hear and see the music instantly!
Every child deserves a quality music education.
We believe we are stronger than Hurricane Sandy and want to continue learning, singing and making music. The projector, cart and audio speakers will help us continue where we left off making music. Minimizing the replacement costs to our low-income school district, by receiving these materials through Donors Choose, would help these families so much. Of all the sacrifices these children had to make these few months, music shouldn't be another one!
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
