Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We still do not have power or heat. The children are going home to cold (it's 40 degrees here) wet, dark homes. We need to send them home with tissue and soap so they can try to keep clean.

Our Middle School is a diverse high-need school comprised of over 1,000 students in grades 6 to 8.

Half of our student population currently receives free or reduced priced lunch. Approximately half of our students receive support services in addition to their core classes. Many of our students are not native English speakers. All of the students have been adversely affected by Hurricane Sandy.

My Project

Hurricane Sandy and the storm surge crippled our small waterfront community. Many are going onto our second week with no heat or power, all have had no school and some no longer have homes to return to. The facial and toilet tissue and soap I requested is for families dealing with water damage, home-loss and rebuilding.

Please help my students with this much needed supplies for those displaced by the hurricane.

They need to be ready to learn and study but they need to be safe, clean and healthy first.
