Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Kindergarten at a Title I school. The majority of our students receive free or reduced rate lunch and come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. A high percentage of the students in my class are ESOL as well as some students with special needs.
My students come from diverse backgrounds and I love to foster their uniqueness.
They all bring something special to our classroom. They have limited resources at home, and my goal is to provide them the resources needed to succeed.
My Project
I teach in Miami and many students who were displaced by Hurricane Maria are moving into our communities. Their families are facing a crisis and it is our duty as teachers to make these students feel at home. During recess time, I would like to use the Legos and music as a tool to help them relieve stress. The Legos will also build motor skills, coordination and fosters creativity. When they are building and creating they are also working on math and science skills. I plan to use the speaker so that we can exercise to music and become more physically active. The speakers in my Smart Board are broken so it will come in very handy. Exercising will also build their motor skills and coordination as well.
It is essential that we reach out to students who were displaced by Hurricane Maria and make them feel comfortable in their new surroundings.
Donations to our project will make a positive impact in their lives and allow them to forget what they have been through.
