Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In just a few days, my first graders in the Bronx will be starting school. My hope is that they will learn to take care of themselves, each other and their community.
Many of them will likely be filled with questions about the horrific pictures they have seen on television of Hurricane Katrina. Donors Choose has provided me with an opportunity to teach my children about the importance of helping one another during tough times. I am proposing to send students dislocated because of the Hurricane a classroom care package of the same items I have purchased for my classroom. I am asking for classroom essentials like pencils, markers, crayons, notebooks, paper and scissors. As a teacher, I know that these supplies will make a difference.
My class will send the care package off with lots of TLC, including special cards that my children have made to wish students just like them well in the coming year. Thanks so much for your consideration of this proposal.
