Hurricane Harvey's Floods Washed Away Our Safe Place
My students need a place to go to for small group and individual counseling. I currently work out of borrowed space on a table. The desk would help me get better organized for my children.
Hurricane Harvey came and left our community and our school flooded. Our school is the heart of a small rural community located along the Texas coast. My counseling room was a favorite spot for students to come to calm down, discuss social, emotional, and/or educational problems, and work on study skills. I serve 750 students ages 3-11 years or 4th grade. Many of our students are now homeless or living in substandard housing as we all try to rebuild after the storm.
My Project
Hurricane Harvey came and flooded our school. The Counselor's room was a place where students loved to go and visit and play. All the furniture in their beloved place was damaged and thrown away. These items will help to continue to rebuild the counseling room to make it a warm and inviting place where both children and adults can go to get help.
I am now trying to rebuild my office area to make it a place to plan and develop my comprehensive guidance program.
The desk and bookcase will be used to organize the materials I use to work with children Pre K through fourth grade.
Harvey did a number on our school and my program. I work with around 750 students, planning and implementing a comprehensive guidance program that reaches everyone. The desk and bookshelf will help organize the materials I routinely use. I currently dig through boxes each week looking for the items I need.
