Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are Spanish speakers at home and receive both English & Spanish instruction. Most receive free lunch and do not have technology at home. Harvey took away most of their homes. But it is so amazing to see how they make an effort to overcome that reality. They come to school so eager to learn.Their socioeconomic disadvantage hinders them from competing with others. They are limited on life experiences outside of their neighborhood. They are so hard working and dedicated to being successful.
My Project
My students need a listening center where they will listen to the book being read while they follow along with the book. This is very important for fluency, vocabulary acquisition and comprehension but most of all pronunciation, which they lack. Learning does not take place through a teacher but also through relevant technology. They can listen to the book several times by themselves until they master their reading and listening skills; which will apply to all other core content. This will give them the autonomy they need to seek their own learning. This will then guarantee the academic success of our future leaders; allowing them to compete in today's global market.
