Hurricane Harvey Golf Club Regripping Project at Rockport Tx.
My students need golf clubs. There has been a tremendous donation process of old golf clubs, but the grips are awful. I can regrip them and fit them to the kids. I need a lot of grips to solve this.
I have a group of hard working, determined young men that love the game of golf, rain or shine.
We have a wide range of experience, from seniors who are perfecting their swing - and quite a few freshmen that are excited to learn the game and working hard on learning how to swing!
Our team makeup includes of a wide range of boys - four different ethnicities to wide gap in income levels. Because of this, about half of the team relies on the school to supply their clubs, bag, roll cart, and shoes - including transportation and green fees. Earlier in the year, Hurricane Harvey decided to take out our locker room, which housed all of our equipment and gear.
Our local Golf Course opened in Feb late after losing 1200 trees.due to all the damaged sustained from Hurricane Harvey. We bused the boys to a course 30 miles away once a week.
My Project
There has been a abundant donation process from the public of old clubs. The clubs can not be used since the grips are decomposed from setting in garages for years. I will need grips, 2 way tape, solvent, a good vise, air compressor to blow of grips if possible instead of using a knife.
Since I am a PGA Life member, I can fit the kids using undersized grips and cutting down old clubs.
The shaft flex will be stiffer than what they need, but it is better than nothing.
I need as many grips as possible. Since I coach at the high school for Varsity Boy,s I also teach PE at the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade level. I would love to introduce those kiddos to golf.
