Our school is fed by the district's 5 elementary schools. The district encompasses both suburban and rural areas so the students have some varying experiences. The 130 students I have in my class throughout the day range in age from 10 to 11. They are typically energetic and happy. Most have active parental support with encouraging home atmospheres. Many students are involved in after school activities such as cheer, dance, and sports.
Keeping my students engaged and motivated allows them to learn through discovery.
A typical day in my classroom could be described as constant motion. I am a strong believer in hands-on/active learning (science) so we are busy from bell to bell. This is key in helping them become lifelong learners.
My Project
What do you do when you have been given a box of locks? Find a way to turn them into a lesson. With the addition of these boxes and small capsules, I will be able to provide my students opportunities to learn in several fun and active ways.
These containers will allow me to plan various lockout and geocaching activities that will serve to reinforce concepts learned in the classroom, as well as getting the students moving and practicing teamwork skills.
Due to the ability of these containers to be used safely outside also gives us the flexibility to enjoy some fresh air instead of sitting in the classroom all day.
