Ms. Doyle from Baltimore MD is requesting a classroom visitor through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a visit from a naturalist for an upcoming exploration into the wildlife of Maryland.

Our school is a public progressive school, bringing project-based learning, arts-integration, and workshop-based instruction to children from all walks of life. We are a community of racially, ethnically, and economically diverse learners taking advantage of all the opportunities and challenges that an urban setting provides.
Our school, and my classroom, is a microcosm of Baltimore itself.
We love to read deeply and widely, write across the curriculum, and for authentic audiences, apply mathematical concepts to meaningful tasks, and grapple with projects that address real-world questions.
This coming fall, my students will be exploring the wildlife native to their home state of Maryland, with a particular focus on birds. Irvine Nature Center is somewhat nearby, and I'd like to have their team of naturalists visit us with live animals in preparation for our own trip to their fields, forests, and streams. The "Hunters of the Sky" workshop would be the perfect entry point for my students to being their research and visual arts-integrated project.
This project will bring the Nature in the Classroom program to our school!
Seeing a real, live owl up close is so much more enchanting than seeing one on a computer screen. My students will learn about owl pellets, migration, and bio magnification.
I aim to inspire my students to think and care deeply about the natural world as they prepare a kids' guide to Maryland wildlife.
