My Project

"Hey Miss, do you got anything to eat?" I am asked this daily by my students in the urban, diverse school of three thousand students. A typical classroom can have students from Myanmar, Somalia, Bosnia, and Belarus learning side-by-side, with students who have never left the state. It makes for quite an interesting teaching and learning experience! We are a refugee relocation city, and many of our students are the sons and daughters of newly arrived immigrants. Built for two thousand students, our school is incredibly overcrowded. Even still, my goal is to make my classroom a safe and versatile space where students can reach their fullest potential!

Hungry students cannot learn!

Food insecurity is an ongoing concern for my students. While free breakfast and lunch are available, students spend most of those times waiting in line for food and not actually eating. Students come asking for food on an almost daily basis. Snacks won't solve food insecurity, but it will help tame the high school hungries!

I have had this project funded in the past and have served students more than hot meals to supplement the school lunches. I will continue to request this type of funding for my students on a quarterly basis. would happily do this on a yearly basis, but I do not have the storage.
