My students are the most inspiring children you will ever meet. They come from some of the roughest backgrounds (being at a Title I school) and yet they come in each day with smiles on their faces and ready to learn. They are so eager to learn new things and collaborate with their peers.
Some of my students are on their own when it comes to learning at home because their parents do not speak English well, or not at all.
If they do speak English, most of their parents work in jobs that do not allow them to spend the time helping their children with school work. This makes their time in the classroom crucial, especially learning core subjects like reading and math. It stresses for me the importance of teaching them that they can dream and go far in life.
My Project
Have you ever had to rely on a food bag to eat each week? Sadly that's the reality for over 50% of my class this year. One student even said if it's not a food bag day she doesn't know if her family will eat that night. My goal with this project is to send extra food home with my students while also having something available at school so if they are hungry they can eat so they can learn. My goal at the end of every day is to do everything in my power to make sure my students are happy, safe, and comfortable and these snacks can go a long way.
