Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are fifth graders in a multicultural, urban community. We have an extremely limited budget with minimal support from our local government to fund basic supplies. These students love their neighborhood school because it creates a sense of community. This is especially important because many of the students come from broken homes. They are excited to learn but often times do not have access to the same materials that other students have from surrounding districts, which leaves them at a disadvantage.
My Project
My students have caught the bug! The reading bug! They all have a new found love for reading thanks to the many book talks and new books that I have made available in my classroom library through other donorschoose projects. The only problem is that I cannot keep up with their demand! They are tearing through series after series, and wanting to know more about subjects like Greek Mythology thanks to the RIck Riordan series of books. They want to keep up with the newest books in the Dork Diaries series. I want them to be able to keep the excitement of reading going, so I desperately need to keep them satisfied with new books! Help me keep these students interested in reading because we all know how important reading is in academics!
