This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a first year teacher at a priority school in SW DC. Our school has been labeled as a "40-40" school, meaning that we are among the lowest performing schools in our district. One hundred percent of our kiddos receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our school population also has a high number of special education students. In my room, I have a variety of learners, including students with ADHD, speech impediments, learning disorders and emotional disturbance.
We don't receive supplies from parents or the school, so we are trying to fill the gap with help from donors!
With your help, we can create a loving, warm learning environment for my first graders where they have access to all the materials they need to learn!
My Project
Many of our students come to school hungry and leave school not knowing where their next meal is. Every student at our school is eligible for free lunch, due to socio-economic status.
It's hard to learn when you are hungry!
I am requesting these snacks so that I can send every child home with a snack after school. For students who come late to school and miss breakfast, these snacks will also help them to fill their bellies!
We aren't able to learn until our physical needs are met. At the very least, we should ensure that all of our students are fed and safe.
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
As a teacher-founded nonprofit, we're trusted by thousands of teachers and supporters across the country. This classroom request for funding was created by Mrs. Richmond and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
