Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a second grade teacher in a low socio-economic level community of wonderful students who have a strong desire to learn, but lack the background knowledge and English skills. My students are very bright. However, writing skills always seem to be a stumbling block where my students need reinforcement.
My students desperately need something to help them get excited about writing! They do not enjoy “worksheet” style learning; yet, my students need a way to practice what they have learned. My goal is for them to walk in my classroom and be eager about learning and practicing writing skills.
I am looking for a way to teach the writing skills that are a part of our state standards and are necessary for students to become successful writers. My second graders have different learning styles, and I try to incorporate all of them into my teaching. Most students learn when they are doing hands-on activities and playing games. The Hamburger Paragraph Pocket Chart Kit will give students the practice they need to master essential writing skills. The giant pocket chart that lets the whole class build their own paragraphs—step by step! The handy folders will guide students step by step through the writing process, with fold-out pockets that store everything from the initial story map to the final draft! Plus, each side of the folder is jam-packed with information to help students along the way, including topic ideas, an editing checklist, and more. A Daily Writing Prompt Flip Chart will give students the daily practice they need to master different writing styles with high-interest prompts that are sure to inspire developing writers! A Classroom Publishing Center will be our destination for all the great stories written in the class!
