Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Welcome to third grade! My students are bright English language learners with diverse strengths and challenges. They are enthusiastic, inquisitive, and hardworking. Many lack reading fluency and comprehension. These students also face many obstacles outside of the classroom.

I believe that each child is able to learn, grow, and succeed.

Yoga, creative movement, multi-sensory techniques, and strategies are incorporated into lessons to ensure the success of all learners. Students work hard to gain new skills, strategies, and a positive attitude about reading!

My Project

My students need a class subscription to Scholatic News Magazines and Science Spin to read, discuss, listen to and research information about current events and relevant third grade topics and skills. They will be able to use these magazines in individual, small group and whole group settings throughout the day. They will also be able to take these magazines home and share essential literacy skills and topics with parents, family and community members. This will provide opportunities for repeated practice and build upon critical literacy knowledge for students and families who are new to the country. It will also provide essential practice with developing nonfiction literacy skills across the curriculum.
