This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a fourth-year, third-grade teacher in an inner-city school, with a high poverty level. One hundred percent of the children at my school receive free lunch. During my time as a teacher, I have witnessed countless children overcome adversity and succeed. I truly have a passion for teaching and I feel so humbled to spend each day alongside these resilient children. My kiddos are compassionate, patient and they all have the kindest hearts. It has been so fun to learn alongside my students for the past three years. This school year has already been my best year yet. One of my favorite parts about being a teacher is getting to know each one of their precious souls. Their personalities are vibrant and silly, just like my own. It is apparent the children at my school are excited and ready to learn, and I feel blessed to be the one who has the opportunity to shape their lives. The passion I've always had for teaching has grown a million sizes throughout the past few years.
My Project
I teach in an inner-city school where 100% of the children receive free lunch. A large number of my children live in poverty, and their only meals are received while at school. My students beg for food every single day, and it truly breaks my heart. I have quickly come to see hungry kiddos are not able to put their best foot forward and retain important information. These snacks will allow me to have food on hand when a child is in need. All of the snacks I have chosen will be stored in my classroom, so I can have a hand in combating their hunger. With full bellies, we can accomplish so much in our classroom!
