Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love to come to school and they love to learn. However, teaching in a low-income area where over ninety-five percent of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch, basic supplies, technology, and differentiated supplies are not easily available to them. With all that said, each morning I am greeted by twenty-five eager learners with wonderful smiles who keep me smiling all day long and who want to learn.
The barriers my students need to hurdle are vast.
My second graders attend a public school in an urban district. . My students are full of energy and ready to learn! My students are very creative and ready to display their knowledge and work.
My Project
My school is 100% free and reduced lunch. While my school provides food for many students we still have rumbling tummies in the classroom!
By filling a child's heart by loving them and their stomach by feeding them, their mind will be ready to focus on learning.
Our grade level has an early lunch. Students are able to bring snacks from home to eat, but most of my students do not have anything to bring. I want to have plenty of options for snacks so that all students have the same access to nutritional food. Some of the snacks that I am requesting include pretzels, Cheez-Its, fruit snacks and Nutri-Grain bars. Long days at school are already hard enough for nine-year-olds without having to endure hunger!
