Wow! I cannot believe that I am almost finished with my fourth year of teaching. Time sure does fly by when you are doing something that you love. I teach kindergarten, and I have such an amazing group of superheroes this year! I have been blessed with such smart, caring, and affectionate students.
My students attend a public Title I school where we serve military and non-military students.
At times, my students may not have what they need, but they come to class excited and eager to learn. My superheroes are unique in their own abilities and what they bring to the classroom. They work together as a team, and together they have tackled the obstacles of learning how to read, write, and add and subtract. I am proud of the leaders that have emerged in my classroom.
I strive to create a classroom that is hands-on, engaging, safe, and fun. I strive to give my superheroes every experience that is at my disposal. They are what push me to be the best teacher that I can be! They have truly left an imprint on my heart.
Kindergarten used to be a time of exploration. A time of fun and engaging activities that fostered collaboration and creativity. Gone are those days, and now they are replaced with rigorous testing. My goal this year is to bring the fun back to kindergarten, while adhering to the standards that need to be taught. One way I can bring back the fun is through pretend play.
My goal next year is to create a kitchen area where my students can practice collaboration, cooperation, creativity, and critical thinking.
The kitchen set, food, kitchenware, and table set can be used by my future students to practice phonics skills, reading skills, blending skills, and addition and subtraction skills while having fun! The hands-on center will allow my students to work together which will help build those social skills that are important in kindergarten. They will also be able to ignite their creativity by playing the different roles, such as the chef, the mom, the dad, the waitress, etc. This is a time where they will have freedom to be anybody they want to be, while making connections to the real world around them. Lastly, they will strengthen their critical thinking skills as they apply the standards being taught to the role play.
To my future donors, I ask that you take this journey of pretend play with me. Help me put the fun back in kindergarten while still applying the skills that they need to be successful academically. Thank you for your support!
