We live in a rural area of north central Florida. Our elementary school is prek-6th grade and has over 800 students. We are a Title I school with every student receiving a free or reduced-price lunch.
Our climate has changed over the years and we serve a large population of children who live at the poverty level.
Many of these students are considered homeless. My classroom itself is a diverse population with children at all different academic levels. I want to work with children in small groups and even one on one while other children have the opportunity to work independently.
This year we are an A school.
My Project
These new books will be a welcome addition to our classroom library. It's important throughout the year to constantly be adding new titles and genres to our collection. It is necessary to have a diverse library so that there is something for everyone.
Students eagerly dive into the new books that are added regularly.
They share their opinions and reviews of each piece of literature with their classmates. This increases circulation of all our new books as well as revitalizing older books by familiar authors. I want my students' enthusiasm for reading to last the length of the school year. When summer arrives I want them to miss our classroom library so much that a trip to the public library will be a priority over their summer vacation.
